Pirouz Nahavandi or Abu-Lu'lu'ah Mausoleum was built in honor of this Persian solider who fought against the army of the Second Caliph Umar (579-644). Despite his bravery, he was captured in battle and sold into slavery. Pirouz later assassinated Umar and according to legend, fled to Kashan in Iran where he died. The Pirouz Nahavandi shrine has a dodecagon conical dome covered in turquoise tiles and beautiful ceiling paintings. The monument was renovated during the Qajar era (1794-1925).
