Semnan Grand Bazaar is a 180-year-old market, built in the early Qajar era (1785-1925). The bazaar has traditional Persian architecture and is mostly built from brick and mudbrick. The bazaar is divided into a northern and a southern section.

The northern bazaar, commonly known as Rasteh Bazaar or Upper Bazaar, is approximately 1.5 kilometers long and has 254 stores. This bazaar has three bathhouses, five mosques and four abandoned caravanserais. The entrance of Rasteh Bazaar has beautiful Persian blue inscriptions, arched ceilings and large glass panels that guide daylight into the market. Semnan’s largest Ab-Anbar (water reservoir) is located within Rasteh bazaar.

The southern bazaar is commonly known as Hazrati Bazaar due to its proximity with the Shrine of Yahya, one of the descendants of the prophet of Islam Muhammad (PBUH). Hazrati Bazaar is a 200-meter street with 50 stores. The façade of this bazaar has tilework similar to the entrance of Rasteh Bazaar. Semnan Grand Bazaar has been built to stay cool in the summer and warm during the winter.
