The Karoun River originates in the Zagros Mountain range in western Iran and flows through Ahvaz, dividing the city into two parts. This river, which is the longest and only navigable waterway in Iran, runs a 950-kilometer course. In biblical tradition Karoun is identified as one of the four rivers of the Garden of Eden.
