Persian polymath Avicenna (980-1037 AD) was a prolific genius, who introduced systematic experimentation into the study of physiology, experimental medicine, evidence based medicine, clinical trials, risk factor analysis, the idea of syndrome and contributed to clinical pharmacology and neuropsychiatry. His works are still taught in universities today. A spindle-shaped mausoleum was built over his tomb in 1952, which resembles Mongol architecture.
