The mausoleum of Daniel the Prophet in Shush is a revered pilgrimage site frequented by Jewish and Muslims. The mausoleum, which has been built on the eastern banks of Shavoor River across from the Shush Castle and has a conical dome, is believed to belong to the protagonist from the Book of Daniel. Daniel was one of several Jewish children taken into Babylonian captivity in the 7th century BC. After the Persian conquest of Babylon, when Cyrus the Great of Persia (576-530 BC) freed the Jews in 537 BC, Daniel and a group of Jewish people came to the city of Shush in Persia where he passed away in the 6th century BC.  While there is dispute about the exact location where Daniel was buried, his mausoleum in Shush is considered to be the most likely spot.
