The Old City of Dehdasht also known as Belad-e Shapur was originally founded by the second Sassanid king Shapur I (241-272 CE) as a trade and religious center. The city flourished during the Seljuq (1038-1118) and Timurid (1370–1507) eras. Dehdasht has a watchtowers and a defensive wall. It includes 7 Imamzadeh (mausoleums built in honor of the decedents of the Prophet of Islam) shrines, two schools, a caravanserai, four mosques, a large bazaar and residential buildings. Because of the seven Imamzadehs in the city, it has been nicknamed city of seven domes. The presence of a caravanserai and cobblestone paths in Dehdasht suggest that minor branches of the Silk Road passed through the city. The old texture of the city was registered as a National Heritage Site in 1985.
